3M 8212 Particulate Respirator Details
The 3M 8212 provides at least 95% filtration efficency against non-oil based particulate. This disposable respirator is designed for welding applications, and protects from metal fumes produced from welding, cutting, and other metal-heating operations. The 3M 8212 features a 3M Welding Web, and is flame resistant as demonstrated per ASTM D2859-96. Features cake-resistant filter media, which helps prevent particles from building up in the respirator's filter layers, keeping each mask fresh and effective for longer.
Featuring 3M's Cool Flow™ valve, this respirator mask stays cool and dry, venting away heat from exhalation to leave the wearer cool and comfortable. The Cool Flow™ valve keeps the wearer an average of 7.5°F cooler than unvalved respirators. Electret Media material also makes the entire mask easier to breathe in. These features increase the wear time of the respirator, which results in extended worker comfort and longer, more efficient, cost-saving use. The 3M 8212 provides a contoured design with a soft foam faceseal that helps maintain a good seal and create a comfortable fit. The metal noseclip allows for a customized fit, and prevents safety eyewear from fogging. The straps are fully adjustable with a quick tug.
The 3M 8212 is recommended for welding, brazing, soldering, torch cutting, and metal pouring. Also recommended for foundries, woodworking, bagging, sweeping, sanding, grinding, and other dusty operations. Note: not for use with oil-based particulate.

Choosing N-, R-, or P-Series Particulate Respirators
Filter efficiency shows how much filter leakage can be accepted. Higher efficiency means less leakage.
95%, 99%, and 99.97% are the most common filter efficiency ratings.
Used in particulate environments free of oil aerosols. N-series filters cannot be used if oil particles are present.
Used for oil and non-oil particles with time use limitations specified by NIOSH. If oil particles (e.g., lubricants, cutting fluids, glycerine) are present, use an R- or P-series filter.
Used for oil and non-oil particples with time use limitations specified by manufacturer. If oil particles are present and the filter is to be used for more than one work shift, use only a P-series filter.
