| Surfing Ear Plugs Help Prevent Surfer's Ear! |
We Also Recommend: Swimming Earplugs for Adults and Children
Surfing earplugs are different from swimming earplugs in two ways. First, and most importantly, surfing ear plugs are made so that you can clearly hear what is going on around you, and second, surfing earplugs are made to prevent water and wind from entering the ear.
When you are swimming for exercise, you generally cannot hear what is going on anyway, because of all the splashing noise you make, so most swimming ear plugs block both sound and water, which is simple and easy.
When you surf, however, lots of time is spent sitting up and waiting for the next wave, chatting with fellow surfers. If you have sound blocking ordinary swimming earplugs in your ears, carrying on a conversation is almost impossible, so surfing ear plugs must let you hear sounds while they block the unwanted wind and water.
For recreational swimmers, the main reason for wearing earplugs is to prevent water in the ear, which is generally just an annoyance, and easily cured by water removal drops or sponges.
For surfers, though, cold water and wind in the ear can actually be life-threatening! The cold water or wind causes a wild bony growth to occur deep in the ear canal, and if untreated over time, the bony spurs that appear, can actually penetrate the brain cavity, with unpleasant consequences!
