Information About Hearing Protection in MRI Procedures...
Pro Ears MRI Safe ear muffs are specially designed hearing protection ear muffs that provide the most comfortable and effective hearing protection you can get for your MRI procedure.
For your convenience, we offer two models, MRI-33 and MRI-26. The
designations indicate the NRR rating of the ear muffs.
Choosing the right Pro-Ears MRI Safe Model
 In general, we recommend choosing the model with the highest NRR rating whenever possible. The higher the NRR rating, the less noise the patient will have to endure and the better will be the test outcome.
With that in mind, if the patient is about three years of age or younger, we recommend the MRI-26 model which will insure the best possible fit.
For adults, either of the two models will be appropriate, with the choice being
driven by the following factors:
- Space available in the head coil: If space is limited, you may need to choose the lower rated MRI model. The NRR is directly related to the size of the
ear muffs. Facility managers may wish to keep both models on hand so the
best fitting ear muffs can be used in each instance.
- Sensitivity of the patient to noise: With those who are very fearful of small spaces and/or loud noises, choose the MRI-33 if it will fit into the head coil, and add ear plugs for dual protection where needed to reassure and calm the patient.
- Patient head size: To get the maximum benefit from any ear muffs, the ear seals must make continuous contact all the way around both ear seals. Small adults and children may need the MRI-26 to get an adequate fit.
