| Direct Sound invented the modern isolation headphone with the introduction of
the Model EX-29 which continues to set the worldwide standard for the
category. By popular demand, Direct Sound has added a more compact and lighter
weight alternative, the Model EX-25. Both have similar musicality and both
offer exceptional isolation from ambient sounds. Direct Sound engineered the
EX-29 model by starting with one of the most effective, comfortable and
durable passive ear muffs ever made, then installing a set of superb high
fidelity speakers inside the ear cups and attaching a heavy duty 9 foot cord
with a gold plated stereo plug adapter that will fit 1/4" and 1/8" jacks.
Direct Sound EX-29 isolation headphones were created for studio engineers
and musicians who need to be able to hear just the monitor feed while mixing
or playing. Ordinary headphones simply do not provide enough isolation from
the ambient surrounding sound to let the engineer or musician hear only what
they need to hear. With a 29 dB sound barrier, Direct Sound EX-29 provides the
perfect solution. With these headphones on, you can clearly hear the monitor
feed with no perceptible interference from other sounds, even those in your
immediate environment.
As a bonus, EX-29 headphones will not let the monitor feed bleed into your
live microphone during recording or playing sessions. Now you can turn up your
monitor feed to whatever volume is comfortable for you and still not cause
interference with your microphone.
Which model to choose?
Direct Sound produces a lighter weight model EX-25 with just a little less
isolation and speakers that are not quite as sensitive as those used in the
original EX-29. The EX-25 is still head and shoulders better than any ordinary
headphones, with 25 dB of isolation and all the other terrific features listed
below. For most personal listening, you will find the EX-25 a superb solution.
For demanding professional applications, we highly recommend upgrading to
the EX-29. The EX-29 has more sensitive speakers that can better handle the
complex subtleties required in microphone placement and monitor mixing tasks
as well as better noise blocking performance which is crucial in many
professional situations. The only downsides are the slightly heavier weight
and bulkiness over the EX-25.
Whether you choose the Direct Sound Model EX-25 or Model EX-29, you will
not go wrong.
Direct Sound Models EX-25 and EX-29 Isolation Headphones Recommended
Applications:
- Live recordings with all musicians present. Everyone can play
together but hear only the monitor feed and not the ambient sounds being
produced, so everyone hears exactly what is being recorded.
- Monitor mix adjustments during live shows. Sound engineers can monitor the mixer board
and not hear sounds coming from the main speakers.
- Monitoring for drummers during studio or live sessions. EX-29
headphones are the only headphones with enough isolation to let the drummer
clearly hear the monitor feed without having to turn the volume up to
dangerous levels.
- Microphone placement and critical mixing. With EX-29 headphones,
you can easily hear the subtleties in sound quality needed for optimal
microphone placement and for critical mixing tasks. Ordinary headphones
allow ambient sounds to be heard, compromising the results.
- Personal listening in a noisy world. EX-29 headphones let anyone
who lives in a noisy place listen, without interference and without having
to turn the sound up to an uncomfortable level, to music, mood sounds, white
noise, books on tape, or television. With EX-29, you can block all the
sounds in your environment and listen at whatever volume you wish, from a
whisper to a roar. EX-29 means you never have to turn up the sound to drown
out noise in your environment.
- Personal isolation for concentration or study. In dorm rooms,
noisy apartments, cubicles and offices, put on a set of EX-25 or EX-29
Isolation Headphones, plug into a little background music, mood sounds or
white noise for perfect isolation from the neighbor's TV, road traffic,
raucous dorm rats, or conversations in the next cube and you will never hear
another disturbing sound!
